ABOUT SELF TEAM ORGANISATION
Hello and welcome to my personal People and Culture blog!
I created this blog to document the many experiences, thoughts and challenges I have in working as a People & Culture practitioner for two reasons.
Firstly, to share information with you in the hope that you will get some benefit from a different point of view, or simply to help you consolidate some thoughts you already have.
Many years ago, I remember receiving my first compliment on my ‘partnership’ and ‘enabling’ business. It took some time for me to understand why I was so valued, yet as I saw other HR practitioners focus on policing and policy, I started to realise what my colleague was saying when he was commending my sense of ‘partnership’, and I have continued to be commended as “the best HR Practitioner [I] have ever worked with”.
I was fortunate to have an incredible mentor who took a chance on me introducing me, to the Human Resources field many years ago. Working in the Technology sector, I moved to Silicon Valley, USA supporting a newly acquired international company to be integrated as a division of an Australian company. My work has provided me considerable opportunities, experiences and learnings across England, France, Sweden, Denmark (where I made my biggest mistake… but more on that later!), South Africa, Spain, America, New Zealand, Japan and every state and Territory in Australia.
The second reason I created this blog is because reflecting on what you do, your approach and your work provides great opportunity for improvement; so this blog gives me time to reflect on what I do to help me continue to improve.
My name is Alison and I work in the Human Resources industry. I prefer to call it the People & Culture industry as for me, Human Resources, or HR, carries a greater administrative connotation and expectation than the way I operate.
I have Bachelor and Masters Degrees and love that I continue to learn every day. I am so inspired by what I do and the incredible people I work with. I’ll be sharing my experiences with these incredible people as well as easy to follow tips, insights and experiences (and templates if I can learn how to attach documents to my blog) as well.
My home is the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland where I live with my incredibly supportive partner, our two inspiring children and our beloved dog Jethro.
Thanks for joining me on this journey! Here’s to us taking time to think about your Self, your Team, and your Organisation (selfteam.org).
